Thank you to talented musician and alumnus Alex Buckley (Tyson's 2022) for coming back to Alleyn’s on Thursday 25 May to take part in the inaugural Alleyn's Community Choir concert.

Alex, who was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Awards in 2022, performed Schumann’s fantasiestücke for clarinet and piano and was joined by rising Year 13 star, Emily on oboe who performed Poulenc Sonata for Oboe and Piano, at the event held at St Barnabas Church in Dulwich.

The audience was also treated to a broad selection of beautiful choral music sung by our Alleyn’s Community Choir. The main work was Mozart’s superb Vespers, sung with organ and soloists, including the beautiful Laudate Dominum for soprano solo.

Simon Kent, Director of Music at Alleyn's Junior School, has been working with the choir since 2019 including running online sessions when in-person rehearsals were not possible.

Chris Dearmer, Alleyn’s Senior School Director of Music, said:

“The inaugural Community Choir was simply superb. The choir tackled really ambitious repertoire in an entirely professional way; perfect balance and blend, everyone clearly working together, and enjoying what they were doing. The programme was wonderfully varied and it was lovely to feature Alex and Emily. My thanks and congratulations go to all the performers.”

Thank you, Alex, for coming back to Alleyn’s. It is always such a pleasure for us to hear you perform.

The choir will re-commence on 28 September 2023 meeting on Thursday evenings in term-time in the Music School at Alleyn’s and performing at the Alleyn's Holly Fair. All new members are most welcome!
