The U13 girls team had their ESSA national finals tournament in Northampton last Monday, alongside the other five top schools in the country.

The girls started well beating Highgate 5-1, then continued to make huge improvements in their next group game with Bolton, narrowly losing by one goal (5-6); a terrific result against a notoriously successful school.

The team progressed through to the national semi-finals, however lost to Notting Hill and Ealing High School and then lost to Manchester Grammar in the bronze medal play-off. The girls improved so much throughout the tournament, learning incredible amounts from each game as the tournament progressed, which was absolutely brilliant to witness and coach them through.

Five of the girls were also playing in Tuesday’s U13 boys/mixed ESSA national finals so had the opportunity to stay up in Northampton overnight in order to get some good revision under their belt whilst spending two long days away for the tournaments. The U13 boys picked us all up en route, and off to day 2 at the finals we went.

Our U13 mixed team had a really tough few games in the group stages against some very strong all boys schools, however came into their own in their final game of the tournament, the 5th/6th playoff against Haberdasher’s Boys School, playing absolutely tremendously, demonstrating clean skills, excellent defensive positioning and teamwork, and won 5-3 to achieve 5th place in the country! A truly brilliant two days up in Northampton and congratulations to all of the players that were involved!
