Alleyn’s Film Studies and Design & Technology pupils enjoyed an inspiring visit from Nico Ferrari (Spurgeon's 2005) on Monday 9 October as part of our celebration of 25 Years of Film Studies at Alleyn’s.

Nico, who sources, designs and creates vehicles for major TV and films including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, F9: The Fast Saga, The Batman and, most recently, Barbie, returned to Alleyn’s to volunteer a day of his time to give a series of outstanding and bespoke presentations and workshops to Alleyn's A level pupils.

In his talks, Nico explained the role that his company, Picture Vehicles LTD, plays in supplying, designing, developing and engineering vehicles for the global film industry. Our Design & Technology scholars and some lucky Design & Technology pupils in Year 7 and 9 also had the treat of joining his presentation.

Nico gave examples of his work including Barbie’s Corvette in the Barbie film and talked about how he got into this area of the film industry, offering tips to students who are considering a career in DT or Film Studies in the future. He also talked about what life is like on a film set and the level of attention to detail that goes into making a film and why they cost millions to produce.

A huge thank you Nico, for a truly inspirational day!

As well as enlightening pupils, earlier this year, Nico also gave Alleyn’s DT and Film Studies staff an extraordinary day touring the Warner Bros Studies.

Find out more about the Barbie Corvette in this interview with Nico which featured in Auto Week.
