Each year this annual event is hosted by one of the seven Foundation Schools and this year we were delighted to be hosting.

Held on Saturday our event comprised of a School tour and formal dinner. It was wonderful to host representatives from The Dulwich Estate and fellow beneficiary schools:

·         Central Foundation Schools of London (Central Foundation Girl’s School and Central Foundation Boys’ School)

·         Dulwich College

·         James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS)

·         St Saviour’s and St Olave’s Schools Foundation (St Olave’s and St Saviour’s Grammar School for Boys and St Olave’s and St Saviour’s Girls School)

The night started with our guests being presented with cornflower buttonholes followed by tours of our School, which were conducted by our pupils. On route guests were treated to a live jazz performance by pupils Oliver on piano and Fred on bass/trombone in our new Junior School Rose building.

On entering the Edward Alleyn Building guests were bathed in cornflower blue light, an ode to our joint Founder Edward Alleyn’s favourite flower. After mains guests heard from the Chairman of The Dulwich Estate, Dr Andreas Köttering who introduced our guest speaker Alleyn’s Scientist-in-Residence, Dr Kevin Fong who spoke about how life is bound by unusual and surprising connections, and this is echoed through our bond with the Dulwich Estate and fellow Foundation Schools. Speeches ended with The Dulwich Estate Deputy Chairman, Dr Irene Bishop thanking Dr Fong and giving the final toast to our guests, our new King and a traditional silent toast to our Founder, Edward Alleyn.

Alleyn’s is grateful to The Dulwich Estate for its annual income distribution which assists the funding of the school’s commitment to means-tested bursaries and public benefit. Learn more about our means-tested bursaries here.
