As leaders in co-education, Alleyn’s is committed to inclusion in all areas of the school. So, it was with great pride and excitement that we watched Year 12 Edie walk onto the pitch on Saturday 18 September and make Alleyn’s history, as the first girl to represent the football 1st XI.

Edie has worked hard to reach the standard of play she possesses. Alongside her natural talent and work ethic, Edie acknowledges the combined support of all her sports teachers. “Since coming to Alleyn’s, I’ve learnt to put in maximum effort, no matter the score line. The coaching from the likes of Mr Molloy, Mr Beauchamp and Mr English helped me adapt to playing with boys much bigger and stronger than me, but still being able to put up a fight physically”.

Edie’s football future looks bright, but she has been praised equally for setting an example to others. PE and Games teacher, Mr Beauchamp, has been impressed with Edie’s progress and attitude over the years. “Edie is always setting the standards for her peers, demonstrating a real determination and effort in everything she does and her commitment to Alleyn’s sport has been unwavering. This is just the start of Edie’s journey, and we are all very excited to see how she will continue to grow in the years to come.”

But Alleyn’s is not just about history-making and winning. Sportsmanship and participation are paramount at the school. Edie puts it best when she says, “to play for any Alleyn’s team in any sport, whether that’s the firsts, seconds, fifths, or sixths - gives me a huge sense of pride, and a massive sense of achievement which I will never forget”.

We wish Edie and all the Alleyn’s teams a fantastic season!
