When Jennie, who is studying for A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths, saw a documentary about the ethics of screening for Down’s Syndrome, A World Without Down's Syndrome, she was prompted to research the issue further, and took a FuturLearn online course about the ethics of disability screening.

When she saw that Medic Mentor, a quarterly publication aimed at students interested in pursuing a career in medicine, offered the opportunity to have a research article published, she decided to write an article titled In Pursuit of Perfection: Is Prenatal Screening for Disabilities Editing Out the Community of Those with Down's Syndrome? in response to all she had learned.

In Pursuit of Perfection article

Medic Mentor accepted Jennie’s article and it was published in the Summer 2021 edition, Pathologies. Describing her feelings when she heard her article had been accepted, Jennie said:

“I felt proud of myself and thought it was pretty cool.”

We couldn’t agree more and wish her luck in her university applications!
