On Friday 12th May, Thomas Heatherwick (Founder, Heatherwick Studio) gave an engaging, informative and inspiring Architecture Talk to our pupils. The room was filled with a broad range of pupils from Year 7 through to Year 12. Also in attendence were Eliot Postma (Brading's 2001), Architect, Heatherwick Studio, our Head Jane Lunnon and the event’s organiser and kind host, Director of Studies Aidan J Sproat-Clements.

Thomas’ presentation explored projects by the Studio, spaces which encompass a variety of purposes and needs, namely: learning spaces, working spaces and healing spaces. From Google Charleston East (Mountain View, United States) and Coal Drops Yard (London, UK) to Learning Hub (Singapore, Singapore). He shared insights about the creativity, planning, problem solving, and collaboration involved in realising architectural visions which can operate as spaces that can bring people together.

Thomas addressed themes including: the power of architecture and interior design to promote and enhance mental health, sustainability and eco diversity. The audience shared interesting questions about the role of collaboration, creativity and regulations when designing a building.

We are proud of our students for the interest and curiosity they brought to the talk and for contributing such thoughtful questions to our generous speaker.
