More than 100 bilingual pupils from Years 3 to 13 delighted us once again by hosting our second Language and Culture Fair on Thursday, 23 March.

This spectacular occasion provides a wonderful opportunity for pupils of all ages to meet fellow speakers of their native tongue, and importantly to celebrate and share their languages and cultures with the wider school community.

While storms threatened outside, the climate inside the Rose Building remained gloriously warm! Animated conversation, laughter, and a stunning playlist of music from around the world, carefully selected by the pupils, rang out from the Junior School Hall. Displays, representing some 20 different languages, included photographs of festivals and food, memorabilia, books, games, origami, Chinese calligraphy, and garments from favourite national teams, with some pupils showcasing their traditional costumes and accessories.

With an increasingly diverse and dynamic bilingual community here at Alleyn’s, curiosity and enthusiasm around these unique events continue to gain momentum. It is a great privilege to be surrounded every day by such rich diversity in our school, and never has it been more important to champion this.

With thanks to our brilliant ‘Bilingual Bunch’, and all who supported the event.
