MFL Concert 2023

On Monday, almost 80 students from across all year groups, along with Mr Harper and Dr Atkinson, participated in the MFL concert, which is a well-established highlight of the Alleyn's calendar. The concert showcased the outstanding musical and linguistic talents of the singers and musicians who entertained a packed Great Hall with beautiful songs in six different languages. The concert was very competently led by Laurence, a Year 12 student.

The MFL concert was a real "ear-opener" and demonstrated brilliantly how wonderful foreign music can be. It was a challenge not to come away from the event without having heard music you intend to stream on Spotify! The event raised funds for Sparrow Schools, our school charity.

The MFL concert also reminded us of how important and indeed joyful it is to learn and speak a foreign language. Frau Schüller pointed out in her speech at the beginning that when you study languages, you don't just learn how to ask where the station is, or how much the apples cost, but also about the culture, history, politics, and perspectives of people from other countries. It is exciting, enriching, and potentially life-changing, especially when you use your new-found language skills to visit and immerse yourself in that different culture.
