Year 13 Spanish students had the opportunity to visit the Cervantes Institute library in London on 3 November to support their research for the Independent Research Project (IRP), an integral part of the final speaking examination they will sit next spring.

For the IRP, students choose to investigate a topic of their choice related to the Hispanic world and subsequently form their own question, key findings and bibliography, from which stems the discussion of their project.

Alleyn's Year 13s were given a guided tour of the library collections in Spanish and then had the chance to use the library resources to support their research. This year they have opted for an exciting range of topics including Feminism in Spain, the Argentine Economic Crisis, the Colonisation of Latin America and the effect of Climate Change in Guatemala.

Year 13 student, Fred, said:

“I found extensive sources that are really useful for my IRP that I wouldn't have found otherwise.”

It was wonderful to visit the Institute and see the array of resources available on our doorstep, and our students had a productive and enjoyable afternoon delving deeper into their topic area. We will be back next year!
