Forty-five Year 12 and 13 Politics, History, Drama and Dance students took to the Victoria Palace Theatre in London on Thursday 3 November to see the award-winning musical, Hamilton.

Hamilton is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the foundations of the America we know today.

With a 21st Century spin on the 18th Century and the role of Hamilton in the founding of America and the writing of the US Constitution and the Federalist Papers, the show was a fascinating exploration of American history and politics. And with outstanding performances, set, music and dance, the show really brought something to all our students across the different subject areas – History, Politics, Drama and Dance.

Year 13 students George, Alp, Manon, Verity and Sophia, put together these words to describe their experience:

"The students thoroughly enjoyed their trip to see Hamilton. It was a fantastic opportunity to contextualise topics studied in History and Politics such as the US constitution and federalism, as well as an overall enjoyable production, with incredible set design and captivating music. The American students in the audience found the experience exhilarating as it offered moments to reflect on US history and its ongoing relevance to contemporary US politics. It really was a night to remember with one student stating they had "chills" from the experience."

Alleyn’s Director of Drama, Jeremy Piper said:

“This show is what theatre looks like when everyone in the building brings their ‘A game’ to work. Utterly thrilling. And we all definitely held it together for ‘Quiet Uptown!’.”
