Our art department welcomed back former staff member Laura Carey and her husband Paul to give a talk on their practice of sculptor and reflect on special effects projects they've worked on across a range of materials.

Laura joined the Learning Support department at Alleyn’s School in April 2013, after working at the City of Westminster College as Head of Disabilities and Dyslexia. Laura is a classically trained figurative sculptor, with awards in both drawing and sculpture; and for a number of years she worked at Madame Tussaud’s as a portrait sculptor. At the same time Laura has worked with her husband, on figurative effects for the film industry, television programmes and for major London museums. After training as an art teacher, Laura taught in schools, art schools and universities, sharing her knowledge and skills related to portrait sculpture over many years.

Whilst working at Alleyn’s Laura continued to work on sculptural projects with her husband, producing sculpture on a fine art and commercial level for public and private commissions, nationally and internationally exhibiting in the Istanbul Biennale in 2017 and 2019.  She became a member of the London Group in 2009 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in 2016.
