In recognition of his 75-year association with Surrey and his 90th Birthday, next week The Kia Oval will be temporarily renamed to The Micky Stewart Oval in honour of Surrey legend and Alleyn’s Alumnus Mr Micky Stewart OBE (Tulley’s 1951).

Micky first saw inside The Oval during World War Two, joined as a member in 1947 and in the 75-year period since he has served the County as a player, captain, Cricket Manager and as Club President.

The club will be renamed for the duration of the Surrey v Yorkshire County Championship fixture between Tuesday 20 September and Friday 23 September. The day before the game starts, Micky will be receiving the Freedom of the City of London and during the match he will receive the 'Keys to the Oval' in a special presentation.

To commemorate such a special occasion the Surrey County Cricket Club are releasing a limited-edition commemorative mug, with thanks to Micky who has chosen Alleyn's as a beneficiary of all proceeds which will be going towards our community partnership programme the Alleyn’s Academy which aims to enable social mobility through sport. Each week we welcome over 100 children for action-packed sporting activities run by staff and students in partnership with organisations and individuals from the world of elite sport.

“Alleyn’s School is where I went to school, and obviously they played a great part in my development. I’d like to use this money to support what they do with the local primary schools, with an emphasis on cricket.”  Micky Stewart OBE

“It is absolutely wonderful that Micky’s incredible contribution to cricket is being marked in this way. We are very grateful for his support of the Alleyn’s Academy and its ambitious and amazing outreach work, of which we are all very proud”. Head, Jane Lunnon
