ESSA Water Polo Triumph

On Wednesday 23 March, we were delighted to celebrate the U18 girls’ water polo team who took the title of English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Champions 2022! The fantastic result was the culmination of 7 years hard work and effort from the pupils and they thoroughly deserved their place at the top.

Head of Water Polo Mrs Charlotte Ody said, "We are so proud of each and every one of them, but more importantly, they should be so proud of themselves; the time, effort and commitment they have all shown over the years is simply outstanding and so admirable. They are so deserving of this national title! This is the most wonderful way to end their season and we are so thrilled for them. Huge thanks to Mr Bone and Mr Green for all they’ve done to support these fantastic students in the pool, too".

Not far behind our U18 girls is the U15 girls’ team who showed great promise as they qualified for the national finals, coming 6^th in the country. It was a great performance yesterday from the team. The tournament took place at Northampton Boys School, and we thank them for hosting this week’s events so brilliantly.

On Friday U18 boys will be eagerly looking forward to their national finals as they go through to the final six. Good luck to all of them and many thanks to Haberdasher’s Boys’ School in Elstree for hosting us.

Our very own Assistant Head, Co-curriculum Mr Neil Green is also the ESSA Honorary Water Polo Organizer who has been running the English Schools water Polo finals all this week. He said, “It has been lovely to see 46 schools from all over the country in 8 national finals this week, competing in this year’s finals after a break due to Covid-19. It was nice to see the boys and girls apply themselves competitively and it was the icing on the cake to be there to watch our pupils do so well.
