The Music department and the Year 7 team welcomed a live stream audience to the MCT to enjoy the Year 7 classes giving public performances as part of their musical studies.
Performed over two nights, the Year 7 concerts provided a wonderful opportunity for all of the pupils - 161 of them - to sing and play to an audience; sometimes for the first time for those who are not normally musicians. The concerts were developed over time, with the concepts beginning back in Advent term when the music staff work hard to gain an understanding of each pupils' musical background and then pick class ensemble pieces which enable everyone to perform regardless of their previous musical experience.
The resulting concerts are therefore the culmination of much hard work. Mr Chris Fish, Assistant Director of Music (Academic) said: "It was a delight to see the progress of this Year 7 cohort as they developed their class orchestra pieces and combined choir songs. The teamwork involved in performing music together will carry these pupils through their shared experience as they progress through the school."
The pupils not only develop key musical skills, but also the ability to work as part of team, polish their performance skills and expression, and hone the life-long attribute of perseverance. Most importantly, they have a whole heap of fun along the way.
Mr Dearmer, Director of Music, said: '"So proud of all 161 Year 7 pupils for their performances over the last two nights. Every single pupil on stage, getting involved, giving it everything".
