Alleyn’s Economics Society invited Sacha Sadan to speak about “What is causing Environmental, Social, Governance objectives to become so central to all businesses today and how can regulators ensure that the objectives are actually delivered?”

With his experience as an asset manager Mr Sadan was able to give the both the industry and regulator’s perspective when discussing some of the main conundrums regulators face.

A number of fascinating ideas were discussed including the causes of the Financial Crisis, systemic risk, regulatory capture and human nature, in the context of behavioural economics. When asked which was the most important of the three objectives Mr Sadan responded that all three were important, but without good governance the other two objectives will not be readily achieved.

Geneva in Year 13, who reached the final of the Climate Science Olympiad at COP26, said she was fascinated to learn that “the intersection between finance and climate change is such a rapidly growing market and that it will be crucial for the future.”

Well over 40 students attended the talk and it was particularly well received.

Head of Economics Mr Robertson noted:

“He was very skilful at reducing complex Environmental, Social and Governance issues down to their essence and rendering them accessible to the enthusiastic audience. This was demonstrated by the quality of the questions that the students asked in the question and answer session at the end. We are very grateful to Sacha for giving us his time.”
