Every year Newnham College Cambridge welcome entrants from female students on 15 different essay questions covering Archaeology, Biological Sciences, Classics, Computer Science, Engineering, History, Mathematics, Medicine, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, Philosophy and Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, and the ‘Woolf Essay Prize’ with questions inspired by Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own.

This year Alleyn’s Year 13 girls did extraordinarily well, with two winners – Romy and Ruby  – coming first in Maths and Computer Science respectively, Suraya Williams coming second in Engineering, Isabel Bainbridge, coming third in Behavioural sciences, and Kara Chapman receiving a highly commended for Classics.

Romy said:

“Researching for this essay has been an amazing experience in itself, and to have won is absolutely incredible. The essay competition has inspired and motivated me to apply to Newnham College this year for Veterinary Medicine.”

The students have worked very hard and this success among so many entrants from across the UK is testament to that. We are very proud of them all!

You can read all the winning entries on the Newnham website.
