Year 5 enjoyed three exciting activity days, enjoying a circus skills workshop and rap masterclass here at school before heading off to Alexandra Palace for adventures on Go Ape and then the Avenue Cookery School to learn culinary skills and then enjoy the fruits of their labours.

Year 5 visited the Avenue Cookery School in Wandsworth which was a brilliant experience for the children as they got to experience life in a professional kitchen, using knives safely and learning different chopping methods, as well as using a hob carefully. Each child helped to prepare spaghetti bolognese from scratch, taking care to chop the onion carefully and not let the sauce burn. The highlight was making tagliatelle from scratch! The children also made ‘Rocky Road’ which they then ate back at school. Year 5 certainly appreciate the effort our own catering team go to every day for us, having experienced how much work just cooking for groups of six is!  A special mention must go to one or our pupils, who managed five servings of his spaghetti Bolognese.

Both Year 5 classes also spent a fun-filled day at Alexandra Palace Go Ape. The centre was located right next to the Palace with amazing views over London. After a safety briefing, the children were given a harness and sent up to platforms in the tree canopy, and from there they traversed across a variety of walkways and then headed back down to ground level using a zipwire. The children started on the treetop adventure course and then progressed to the high ropes course. We then enjoyed an hour of team games before heading under a tree for some shade to enjoy lunch. The children were fantastic throughout and relished each challenge.
