The biannual MFL magazine, The Polyglot Papers, is edited by a Year 12 students Rebecca and Tom, and is overseen by our Head of French, Ms Wright. In addition to our curriculum languages of French, Spanish and German, the editors welcome submissions in all other languages spoken by our pupil community.

Head of French, Ms Wright, explained the beneficial role a foreign language magazine can play to promote languages in school:

“The Polyglot Papers affords our students a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their language skills at every stage of their learning and I‘m sure it will inspire our younger learners when they see just what a high level of fluency our A level students can achieve through hard work and determination.”

There is something for everyone in this first issue: recipes, TV and film reviews, haikus in Spanish, a French essay on the importance of internationalism in the 21st century, a linguistic starter kit for visiting Portugal, and so much more.

Co-editor, Rebecca commented:

"The Polyglot Papers provides a fun platform for students to learn about different cultures and in the process improve their language skills.”

**Photography competition**

All pupils are invited to enter Polglot’s next photography competition on the theme of 'Urban Life'. The best entries will be published in the next issue.

Congratulations to Richard Yu in Year 8, whose wonderful image of a boy leaping over his friends through rays of sunshine has won the top prize this time!

The MFL Department holds a number of events throughout the year to promote and celebrate languages, including the annual MFL concert in March, which is wholly organised by pupils and gives front stage to pupils and staff performing songs in any foreign language.

The annual Alleyn’s Bilingual Meet-Up is a social event offering bilingual pupils from right across the School, starting with the very youngest in the Junior School, to spend some social time with other pupils of any ages who speak the same foreign language as them. This year - summer games and a picnic on the field - will be held on 24 June - plenty of time for the weather to cheer up!
