Year 12 student, Oli, has been taking part in Forest School activities, led by Mr Benest, as part of the Alleyn’s Enrichment course. Designed for Year 12 students, the Enrichment programme offers a variety of activities aimed at enhancing pupils’ academic learning by developing critical thinking skills, broadening interests and providing an opportunity to work with local partners to lead activities.

Oli shares his reflections of taking part in Forest School activities:

“Forest School has been an interesting and engaging experience for all of us to go through. Of all the Enrichment activities, I can whole-heartedly say that this is one of the best ones out there. The chance to go outside and get some fresh air, especially in these Covid-19 conditions, is one that should be valued greatly, as the liberation from masks is always a special experience.

The exercises we take part in are particularly enjoyable, as the skills that we have learned are both fun and useful. If any of us are to end up in a life-or-death situation (let's hope not), we can now comfortably say that we are able to use a knife effectively to create fires or makeshift weapons, that we are prepared to use signal fires to get help, and that we can build an effective shelter in the harsh and unforgiving wilderness. Plus, the group of us who took part have all had fun, and at the end of the day, that’s what’s important in Enrichment.

I would 10/10 would recommend it!”
