Alleyn’s scientists pitted their wits against opposing science quiz teams in local sixth forms yesterday for an hour of fun yet intense enquiry into their scientific knowledge.
The eight participating schools were Charter North Dulwich, St Thomas the Apostle School, The Elmgreen School, Dulwich College, the London Academy of Excellence, JAGS, Kingsdale Foundation School and St Saviour's & St Olave's.
Rounds on Engineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Covid-19 and Famous Scientists challenged the teams with some tough questions. Here is a taster:
How far is 12 parsecs?
a. 39 light years
b. 3.7 x 1012m
c. 4500 AU
d. None of the above it’s a unit of time…
Answer: 39 Light years
We also learned that the electronics company Nintendo was founded way back in 1889!
The winner will be announced on Friday and we are hoping we might have pipped current cup-holders The Charter to the post!
Junior School Open Day
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
