As part of National Careers Week, Alleyn’s Head of Careers, Mrs Visram, hosted 'Your job in their hands: Discover job trends and meet the decision makers' - the first panel type event hosted by the Careers Department at Alleyn’s.

The panel of experts included:

  • Andrea Stavri – Senior Strategic Account Manager, Amazon

  • Charlene Hunter – CEO & Founder, Coding Black Females

  • Jack Galloway – Theatre Costume Designer

  • James Partridge - Graduate Recruitment partner and Training Principal, Allen & Overy

  • Kirsty List – Executive Director, UBS

  • Peter Felix – Commercial Director, RM Curtis

  • Siobhan Morrin - Associate Editor, LinkedIn.

The event gave students great insights into recruitment processes (formal and informal) in a vast range of industries.

Through a moderated discussion over the course of the evening, the panel shared their knowledge of which industries are currently growing and contracting, the good, the bad and the ugly of the application and interview process, the importance of continuous networking, portfolio careers, the impact of Covid-19 on varying sectors and the significance of careers curiosity.

Students at schools including LAE Tottenham and Charter School North Dulwich also attended, and the post-event comments have been very positive.

One Year 10 Alleyn's pupil commented:

“I would really like to say thank you so much for hosting tonight's panel discussion. It was the most informative and useful seminar I've ever been able to watch, and I have taken a lot from it. As soon as the seminar ended, I immediately sent pictures of my notes to all my friends who weren't able to make it, and I'm getting messages now of them regretting having not been there or being really grateful for this information! From now on, I will be trying to build more relationships and find more experience in a wider range of interests. Thank you again!"

Since lockdown began, our pupils have expressed an interest in having live events where possible and we were pleased to organise this and another live event during National Careers Week 2021.

A recording of the event will be available on the Careers section of The Hub.
