The Prime Warden of The Worshipful Company of Saddlers, Mr Mason, visited School to meet and celebrate the achievements of pupils who have been awarded a Saddlers' Scholarship this year.

To be an Alleyn's Saddlers' Scholar is a very special achievement, usually awarded to just six Year 7 pupils on entry to the Senior School.

Mr Mason spoke of how both the Saddlers and Alleyn’s cherished the connection between our institutions and commended the pupil’s achievements. He said: “I wish you all the very best and we look forward to following your fortunes over the next seven years.”

Each pupil was presented with a Saddlers' tie, which they would usually be helped to tie. However, owing to social distancing measures, Alleyn’s Bursar, Mr Born, provided a demonstration from afar! And then the pupils had the chance to sign the Saddlers’ Book – a special book signed by each and every Alleyn’s Saddlers' Scholar.

Our relationship with the Saddlers dates back over almost 50 years and, since 1971, more than 300 pupils have been awarded a Saddlers' Scholarship. More recently, the company has also funded bursary places at Alleyn's, continuing to provide transformative support to pupils at Alleyn's.
