Music A level students were treated to a special night of entertainment on Monday night (5th June 2023) watching the marvellous ‘Il trovatore’ by Verdi.

A devastating curse rises from the ashes in Verdi’s monumental tale of superstition and rivalry, with passions running high as Manrico and the Count di Luna compete for the affections of Leonora. Little do they know, Manrico’s mother Azucena has been keeping a terrible secret for decades. Soon a curse from the past will rise up from the ashes with devastating implications for them all.

The Music Department staff had recently done a backstage tour at the Royal Opera House on Scholarship Day, so it was great to be back and see the Royal Opera House in action with this glorious opera. The students are studying ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ by Mozart as part of their Music A Level course, so it was wonderful to watch another magnificent opera, live in a highly prolific venue like the Royal Opera House. An inspiring and enriching trip for our Music A Level students!
