On Wednesday 8 March, two of our most valiant and talented Year 13 Hispanists, Domitille and Joe, travelled to North London Collegiate School to debate among 17 other schools on the future of the monarchy, unisex bathrooms and Artificial Intelligence in Spanish in the Inter-School Spanish Debating Competition.

Only the most committed and courageous students would volunteer to take part in a fierce debating competition in a foreign language straight after their gruelling mock exams, leaving them only six days (rather than three weeks!) to research the topics and practise.

They performed brilliantly, winning two out of their three debates, missing out on the quarter finals by only one point.

Alleyn’s Head of Spanish, Rosa Twomey, said:

“Dom and Joe have demonstrated such enthusiasm and commitment, working tirelessly in their free time to carry out independent research and practice debates. We are so proud of their efforts and achievements, and hope it aided them in their Mock Oral Examinations, which continue this week and next!”
