An eclectic Cultural Conversation Café was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Pavilion, covering subjects as diverse as supporting the Bundesliga to Chinese paper cuttings.
Two pupils presented explanations of their artwork, currently on display in the lower atrium of the EAB. It is Katerina's description of her self-portrait, Indomitable Ukrainian, that typifies her own ideals and heritage. A triptych collage explores Anna's heritage as a half-Russian with Ukrainian roots, with her grandmother meeting Boris Yeltsin in one corner, while her ancestors stand together in the other.
Based on Zoe Leonard's shopfront photographs, Amelie presented a wonderful comparison of Tube entrances.
Christian, our German language assistant, presented a compelling case for why he would prefer to follow the Bundesliga over the Premier League, explaining the differences in ownership and ticket prices between the two nations.
We learned a great deal about the history of the French duo Daft Punk from Fred Stephens who answered the question: did the duo lose their French roots?
The history of the tango was shared by Anahi, who explained that it was once only danced between two women but changed as European settlers colonised South America.
Amy concluded the afternoon by sharing a tutorial on Chinese Paper Cutting and its customary meanings as well as its value in society.
