We welcomed the first group of around 30 Year 5 pupils from several primary schools in the local area to come along to Alleyn’s and be part of a choir. The first session, led by music teacher Darcey Wynter, began with some ‘getting to know you’ games before moving on to some invigorating voice exercises.

The children can look forward to an exciting repertoire over the coming weeks, which will include some Jackson 5, contemporary pop songs, and even musical numbers and songs in a foreign language. The pupils will learn how to sing in a three-part harmony, understand the fundamentals of singing in a choir and form new friendships with others who also love to sing!

The choir will work on rotation, with new pupils forming a fresh choir every a six-weeks. At the end of each rotation the choirs will perform for their parents.

In addition to this being such a fantastic opportunity for those Year 5s to have the chance to be part of a choir, Alleyn’s Year 9 Music Volunteers are really pleased to have the opportunity to get to know the children as they help out with the afternoons as part of their outreach provision.

The first session proved to be a huge success and we are excited to see the results of each cohort as they come through the academy.

Ms Wynter was certainly pleased to have got started:

"We had a great first session bopping along to Blame it on the Boogie by the Jackson 5. It was so nice having the Lower School Atrium filled to the brim with singing on a rainy cold Tuesday afternoon!"
