On Friday, 12 pupils took part in the London and Southwark Branch regional heat for the Prayer Book Society’s Cranmer Awards at St Simon Zelotes Church, Milner Street, London.where competitors recite passage(s) of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and read aloud between 3 – 5 minutes to the audience. With the instruction, “the chosen passage(s) should be spoken in a manner appropriate for a church service and any form of dramatization should be discouraged.”

All Alleyn’s pupils who took part in the 11-14 junior category were praised for reading “exceptionally well“ and were told “you smashed it out of the park”. Edward received a “Highly Commended “for his good projection and great volume and Lucy received 3rd place for her good projection and clear enunciation. Micah, who achieved first place, was praised for his eye and contact with congregation/ audience and his articulation.

Those taking part in the 15-18 Senior Category were all praised for being “exceptionally good”. The results for this category where:

Highly Commended: Year 10 pupils Maya, Annabel, and Sofia. 

3rd Place : Ceci (Year 10)
2nd place  Anahi (Year 11) 
1st place Matilda (Year 10)

Congratulations to Micah and Matilda who made it through to the National Finals taking place in February at the Liverpool Hope University.
