This Saturday at Lord’s (the home of cricket) a live stream of a darkly comic new play 'Stumped' written by Alleyn’s Classics Teacher, Dr Shomit Dutta will be aired.

"Part of the inspiration for writing the play came from studying and now teaching Alleyn's pupils Aristophanes' comedy 'The Frogs' in which Aristophanes brings back to life two of his favourite playwrights, the great tragedians Aeschylus and Euripides." Dr Dutta

Stumped stars Stephen Tompkinson as Samuel Beckett and Andrew Lancel as Harold Pinter, watch them talk more about the play here:

Dr Dutta’s play celebrates two great men of theatre and their love of cricket. His witty new play gives a wonderful insight into what the friendship between these two great men may have looked like. As well as being a beautiful tribute to their writing, the theatre of the absurd, and of course their love for the game of cricket.

The play can be watched livestreamed on Saturday 10th at 7pm followed by a live Q&A with former England captain Mike Brearley and the Guardian's former theatre critic Michael Billington hosted by journalist Emma John. It will also be available to watch online from 27 Sep 2022 19:30 until 27 Sep 2023 23:59, pre-order now available.
