Year 2 and Year 6 joined Mr Alldrick, lead in the Senior School for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, for a celebration of the highly successful completion of their Junior Duke challenges. It is the second year of the scheme for Year 6. Each child had to complete 7 out of a possible 10 challenges. Their challenges included ‘Averting Disaster’ (this is a new challenge about finding the fuse box/stopcock etc at home to make it safe), first aid, trip planning, drama, cookery, sport, caring for others and many more. And it was the first year for the Y2 children who also had to complete 7 of the 10 challenges. Their challenges included washing a car, making food or a drink for a family member and making fire, which they completed altogether at Forest School. The amount of energy and enthusiasm the children directed at each task was evident and Mrs Gentry-Peacock, Mrs Beith and Mrs Mynors were very happy to look through all the Junior Duke booklets over the course of the year, bearing witness to all the amazing things the children were getting up to. It showed many of our school dispositions including tenacity, imagination, courage and self-belief and responsibility. Super effort all round!
