In celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Historic Royal Palaces have invited schools across the country to sew wildflower seeds to create their very own ‘Superbloom’ wildflower meadows.
Our co-curricular Gardening Club was thrilled to take part. Pupils Maive, Eva, Tilly and Imogen rolled their sleeves up in our Lower School Garden and got sewing their wildflower Superbloom mix, which lucky for us included Edward Alleyn’s favourite flower – the cornflower, which is depicted in the altarpiece in the Foundation Chapel in Dulwich Village and is worn on Founders Day.
Our Junior School have also taken part, with the help of Mrs Goldsmith, Reception Class children sprinkled their Superbloom seeds on the Junior School top field. We are thrilled to be taking part in a nationwide celebration and at the same time creating a pollinator friendly wildflower corridor throughout the grounds of Alleyn’s and indeed across London as a huge meadow of the same seed mix has been sewn in the moat of the Tower of London!
