The MCT and Atrium were filled with colour, smiles and music from the 159 performers and their audience, all happy to be back performing or witnessing this celebration of music at Alleyn’s.

A Lot of Hot Air and A Bit of A Scrape brought together sixteen of our wind, brass and string ensembles in a concert which began in the MCT auditorium and moved through to the Atrium to showcase smaller ensembles on the various levels in a promenade-style performance.

Performances in the theatre included Thunderbirds Are Go and Hotel California, and in the Atrium pupils performed a variety of pieces from The Gypsy Clarinettist in New Orleans - K. Terret to Eye of the Tiger - Sullivan III & Peteric – while the audience were served drinks and canapes.

Ned Bennett, our MC for the evening remarked 'What a joy to host Hot Air again after a gap of three years!  All pupils played and sang with such gusto, there was clearly some excitement about!'

Director of Music, Chris Dearmer noted that 'The return of the gloriously ebullient 'A Lot of Hot Air and A Bit of A Scrape' was a sheer delight to witness after a hiatus of three years.  I was particularly pleased to see the evident pleasure with which all the many young musicians involved in the concert performed their pieces. Sixteen ensembles performed throughout the MCT and the Atrium with a huge range of works from composers including Gershwin, Mozart, Brubeck and Sting.  Roll on 'Hot Air' next year!'

A wonderful evening for all present!
