The first day of February marks Lunar New Year 2022 and the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. Courage, confidence, strength and leadership, the great characteristic of this zodiac sign, are also those we share at Alleyn’s. But many of us who have seen the colourful decorations that adorn many cities around the world and have enjoyed the festive food, may not know the origins and history of Lunar New Year. So, we were very grateful to Year 13 Jennie, who is of Vietnamese heritage, for her excellent presentation at assembly in which we learned about the Legend of Nian and the rituals and traditions that are observed in homes to celebrate the beginning of a new year. And in reminding us that Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries in Asia, Jennie concluded her talk with New Year’s greetings in several languages.

On 7 February, Alleyn’s launches its first Multicultural Week as we extend our celebration of all the cultures that make up our School community.
