Year 2 learned that materials can be changed without heating or cooling them. In their science lesson Year 2 conducted a sorting activity, placing images of objects made from a variety of different materials using one of two headings – those that can be changed and those that cannot. The children then carried out a practical task to investigate if objects made from a variety of different materials could be changed by squashing, bending, twisting, and stretching them. They tested an aluminium can, a metal pipe cleaner, a cotton sock, a paper drinking straw, blu-tac, a cotton towel, plastic sponge and a rubber elastic band and recorded their results on a table.
