Economics: Market Simulation

Morgan Stanley and Amplify Trading welcomed students from a variety of schools to host a virtual Trading Simulation.

Students were divided into two groups: asset managers and investment bankers. There was a news feed which announced events and they had to respond based on how much the information diverged from market expectations. The asset managers traded by buying or selling shares and the investment bank then neutralised the risk by doing the reverse trade.

This gave the students a great initial insight into markets and very effectively led them through some basic principles of Economics and Trading. It was great to see Economic principles being used in practice even if it was ‘intense but fun’, as Year 12 student Louis described it.
