This week, two concerts showcased the wonderful diversity of music and incredible dedication of Alleyn’s musicians and staff and kicked off the festive season in great style. St Cecilia’s concert on Tuesday 30 November took place in St Barnabas Church, Dulwich in front of a live audience of parents, pupils, staff, alumni and community members who enjoyed performances from Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, Soul Choir and Chamber Choir, Saximus Maximus, Tuesday Sessions and Jazz Band. For the first full concert in 20 months, the newly formed ensembles came together to present an impressive repertoire from Bizet and Vivaldi to John Williams and Madness.

Director of Music Chris Dearmer said, “We were so proud to make such a triumphant return to the stage after such a long period of absence. The way pupils rallied around in September and embraced the opportunity to make music together again, free from year group bubbles and restrictions, has been nothing less than inspiring. They, and we, can all take great pride in what they achieved on Tuesday night. Every performance was superb. Alleyn's music is back!”

On Thursday 2 December, this time in the MCT, the festive mood was heightened even more with a jubilant concert of holiday music from Sinfonietta, Monsterphonic, Little Barbershop of Horrors, All Stars, Guitar Rocckestra and Swing Doctors who performed Christmas classics such as Silent Night and Jingle Bell Swing alongside You’ll Be Back from Hamilton the Musical and Stairway to Heaven to which many of the audience members sang along. The concert’s retiring collection was in aid of the School’s charities Sparrow School in South Africa and The Refugee Council.

It was a truly magical week of music from pupils across the whole School and we look forward to more with our Carol Service on Tuesday 14 December.
