On Friday 12 November, The Chaplaincy - Chaplain Reverend Lander and Assistant Chaplain Mrs Bailey-Smith - took 15 pupils from Years 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 to the regional heat final of The Prayer Book Society’s Cranmer Awards at St. Simon Zelotes Church in Chelsea. The competition gives pupils the opportunity to read a passage of their choice from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Our pupils read beautifully and were delighted to win both the junior and senior competitions. Year 9 Matilda was the winner in the 11-14 year old category, and Year 13 Diana won the 15-18 year old category.  Alicia and Amelie, both Year 8, received ‘Highly Commended’ awards.

Our winners will now progress to the National final which will be held at Hampton Court Palace on 26 February. Congratulations to everyone who participated.

The Cranmer Awards are an annual competition run by the Prayer Book Society to introduce young people to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Entrants from across the country read or recite a passage of their choice, 3-5 minutes in duration, from the Book of Common Prayer. Local heats are held around the country, and the winners of the heats go through to the National Final where competitors must recite their chosen passage by heart.
