Alleyn’s pupils received a rare and invaluable masterclass from members of the Aronowitz Piano Trio on Monday 4 October. The day-long visit was part of the Alleyn’s International Concert Series (AICS) organized by Alleyn’s Music Department. Eleven lucky pupils were invited to perform for Tom Poster (piano), Magnus Johnston (violin) and Guy Johnston (cello), who spent time with each pupil, giving detailed feedback and advice for improving not only the performance but understanding the context of each piece of music. The ensemble truly inspired our young performers to find the extra nuance and expression that can make all the difference.

In the evening the ensemble came together for a concert which was open to the public. After an 18-month hiatus, it was wonderful to attend a night of music at the MCT. The programme included pieces by Schumann, Schubert and contemporary composer Joseph Phibbs.  We thank the members of the Aronowitz Piano Trio for an inspirational day and look forward to welcoming them back to Alleyn’s.

The AICS aims to bring some of the finest instrumentalists and ensembles from all disciplines to Alleyn’s, not only to perform in the concert series, but also to spend some time teaching and coaching our young musicians in associated educational projects. We are very grateful for donations received from the School’s supporters under the Advancing Alleyn’s fundraising programme, and to Rebecca and Nat Sloane, Simon Rowe and Krysia Osostowicz for their generous sponsorship of workshops and masterclasses, which are an integral part of the AICS.
