A huge thanks to Zoë Miller who got back in touch with Ms Carlsson, her old geography teacher, and came in today as a result to talk to Year 11s about sustainability and development  as well as Alleyn's Upper School geographers about choice of degree courses and life at University.

Zoë studied geography at Alleyn's at A Level and went on to do a Combined Honours in Social Sciences (Human Geography and International Relations) at the University of Durham, graduating in 2019 with a First.

After working with a Thai women-led human rights organisation in Bangkok, she discovered a textile company producing harmful-chemical-free fabrics and another making handwoven cotton-fabric from traditional weaving methods. Using her interests and skills learned as part of her studies and, in particular with her focus on circular economies, she has recently set up an exciting and enterprising new venture designed to revolutionise the use of disposable sanitary products by providing a sustainable, ecological alternative. Her carefully thought-out company aims to help combat the huge global problem of plastic waste and provide fair and ethical production methods whilst also advocating for women's and human rights.

The reusable pads are completely plastic-free, making use of organic and waste plant fibre fabrics and natural, plant-based dyes. They are highly absorbent (more so than disposables), anti-bacterial and super soft. All packaging and paper is also either compostable or recyclable, the ink used is non-toxic, acid-free and vegan, shipping emissions are offset through a renewable wind power project in Taiwan AND, if you live in London, delivery is carbon neutral and brought to you by bicycle!

Find out more about the excellent BB Pads, read about her mission and learn the fascinating story behind her venture at bbpads.com. It will help make the world a better place.
