The Library is opening up whenever possible to a wider group of pupils and today English teacher Mr Howell-Harte brought his English class in to pilot The Reading Game, which is designed to get children excited about different genres.
First the class divided into five groups which each had several books from a selection of genres - Adventure, History, Romance, Crime and Horror – to consider. Then each group had to decide which book had the best cover, blurb and opening.
It was a great opportunity for the pupils to visit the Library, talk about books, borrow for the summer and see that there are some genres they have never considered before but would maybe borrow in future.
Each pupil left with having discussed a number of books and a list of possible reads for the summer.
The pupils were really enthusiastic and the library has decided to roll the scheme out across the Lower School next year.
The next Alleyn's Junior School Open Event is from 1.30pm to 3pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024. There will be a Head's Talk at 1.40pm after which you will be offered a tour of the school with a pupil. There is no need to book a place at this Open Event - everyone is welcome.
