The sun has been shining for 30 Year 11 pupils who took on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice and qualifying expeditions during the week from 8 – 12 June in some very warm conditions!

With map in hand and heavy bags on their backs, the pupils have been hiking more than 90km over the course of the five days from Dulwich to Crystal Palace to Wandsworth to Coulsdon to Oxted to Orpington. Each day has begun at a train station due to overnight camping restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Congratulations to them all on an outstanding effort, made especially tough by temperatures of over 25 degrees Celsius in London!

DofE is a popular co-curricular choice at Alleyn’s offering pupils a personal and individual challenge. As well as a tough expedition element, as part of the Award, pupils must cover a volunteering, skill and physical element, as well as a residential for the Gold Award.
