With paintbrushes in hand and smiles on their faces, a group of Alleyn’s Year 10 volunteers recently had the opportunity to spend two days at local partner school, Dog Kennel Hill Primary, sprucing up a part of the school with an original, hand painted mural.

Part of their two-day Field Day experience, the project allowed the volunteers to work with Year 4 pupils from Dog Kennel Hill Primary to design and create a piece of art that would brighten up a blank wall inside the school's art block.

The first morning was spent working with the Year 4 pupils helping to shape the designs. Ideas were flowing as the volunteers encouraged all kinds of funky and fun ideas, developing the children’s creative concepts into blueprints for the design.

The designs were put onto acetates, that were then projected onto the walls. With the help of two of our wonderful Junior School Art teachers, the images were brought to life - painted onto the wall and supplemented with designs from our own students.

The results were brilliant, and we aren’t only speaking to the mural. The chance to connect with Dog Kennel Hill Primary School was enriching and heart-warming and we look forward to future collaborative projects and activities with the children and staff.

Bravo Alleyn’s volunteers!
