Our A-Level Spanish students had an incredible opportunity today as they connected via video call with Professor Juan José Lecaros Calderón from the Central University of Chile during their Spanish lesson. The session provided valuable insight into the political and social context of Machuca, a film they study as part of their course.

Conducted entirely in Spanish, the Q&A session was an excellent opportunity for students to refine their listening and speaking skills. They posed thoughtful questions on topics such as Salvador Allende's policies, the 1973 coup, and the short- and long-term repercussions of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship.

Professor Calderón concluded with a powerful message: the lessons of the past remain relevant today. We must respect different viewpoints and continue to defend human rights. It was truly an inspiring and enriching experience for all involved! We’ll hopefully do a video call with them in English soon and continue the partnership by hosting a session on British culture and current affairs for his university students.
