With stellar productions across Bear Pit and Devised Theatre, there has been an array of creative flair, expression and engaging theatre hitting the stage in D1 this week.

Year 13 devised theatre took us on a wonderfully strange and gorgeously told adaptation of The Green Knight and a brilliantly bloody and darkly sensual tale of Bluebeard on Tuesday night. Both shows are rich with song and dance and the joy of collaborative theatre-making.

A remarkable lighting design was delivered throughout the show from the talented Aleanbh, who was our Lighting Design and Operations Technician for Legally Blonde earlier in the year. Aleanbh ensures the actors are always seen and themes the space through colored lighting and shapes. Thanks to her exceptional expertise, she has just received an unconditional offer to study Technical Theatre and Stage Management at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art - an outstanding achievement.

Wednesday evenings Upper School Bear Pit delighted an audience of family and friends, with on stage renditions ranging from a terrifically pithy adaptation of Salinger’s Franny to a wonderful extract from Jack Thorne’s Motive and the Cue. The show was topped off with the pleasingly ridiculous original murder mystery, Lady Daimuth is Actually Dead.

The Bear Pit continues its proud tradition as an opportunity for students to take the reins with all aspects of a piece, to try out new work, experiment and have lots of fun. Thank you to our students for their immaculate performances, and to Alleyn’s Drama for their commitment to delivering a stream of entertaining shows
