The talents of the Alleyn’s Music department once again filled the air at St Barnabas Church as we proudly presented a dazzling St. Cecilia’s concert on Monday night.

An opportunity to celebrate the very best of music making at Alleyn’s, all in the name of the Patron Saint of Music, the night showcased performances from the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Schola Cantorum and Jazz Band, each unfolding with grace and talent.

The evening opened with an entrancing show opener of Virga Jesse by Schola Cantorum, conducted by Mr. Beatty, before diving into the iconically enthralling Psycho Suite, which had Mrs. Lunnon brimming with delight.

‘What a stunning, stunning evening. Going from Psycho to The Nutcracker and that was only just the start. Huge congratulations everyone.’ - Mrs. Lunnon, Alleyn’s Head.

Featuring a variety of music from Argentina to Austria and student soloists, most notably Tommaso on clarinet playing Debussy's Première Rhapsodie, each piece showcased the enormous sense of joy and teamwork shown throughout the term.

Reflecting on their performance at and preparation for the concert, Ramirez Ensemble soloist, Ella, said:

‘Every time we have a concert, I’m amazed by the variety of music on show, and am always introduced to something completely new and exciting, like Navidad Nuestra. Rehearsals in Argentinian Spanish were challenging at first, but nevertheless fun and rewarding.

‘My first solo, though exposed and to a huge audience, was so enjoyable, which is testament to our Choir Master’s fantastic teaching and encouragement. Thank you for introducing us to, and leading us through, this unique style of choral music. Your support and guidance made all the difference!’ - Ella.

Mr. Fish, Director of Music, aptly captured the feelings of the evening, stating,

‘The Symphony Orchestra, Scholar Cantorum, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Jazz Band sparkled in the beautiful surroundings of St Barnabas Church.

‘From the first note of Bruckner, sung by Scholar Cantorum, to the last strains of the Christmas medley played by Jazz Band, the audience was entranced. What a superb way to start the final week of a busy but fantastic musical term.’ - Mr. Fish, Director of Music.

The dedication and passion of approximately one hundred Alleyn's musicians created a truly memorable evening, with the combined energies of talent, teamwork, and joy in performance reverberating throughout the air of the evening and beyond.
