Alleyn’s has made it through to the finals of the Goldsmiths’ Company Community Engagement Awards – a student-led award which celebrates the positive impact schools have through charitable and voluntary initiatives within their local communities.

A team of Year 12 students presented the Alleyn's Outreach Programme to a panel of six judges, including Judith Cobham-Lowe OBE, a Liveryman and former Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company, and were subsequently shortlisted in recognition of the amazing work the scheme does in our local community.

The programme, which involves 112 students, supports eight local state primary schools with seven primary teaching projects, including dance, science and art – subjects that some schools do not have specialist staff for.

Our students and staff have created bespoke schemes tailored to each school to support their curriculum and provide access to specialist learning and equipment. It allows primary school pupils the chance to try something completely new, building new interests and hobbies. It offers them the chance build confidence through developing skills in reading, communication and team work as well as exposing them to new facilities and technologies.

The judges praised our team for their presentation and for the impact that the programme has on the local community as well as on those students involved. The judges commented that our students had clearly benefitted from the learning and development opportunities provided during the programme.

Regional finalists are now invited to the magnificent Goldsmiths’ Hall in London for a ceremony and a chance to showcase their community engagement activities. They go on to compete for the national title on the 25 June against a selection of schools from across England. Good luck Alleyn’s!
