On Wednesday, 42 Year 10 French students embarked on an inspiring and thought-provoking study day at the British Film Institute. Immersed in the world of cinema, they honed their linguistic skills to by analysing short films and explored the rich and diverse themes of l'identité et l'appartenance (identity and belonging). These themes spanned the vibrant cultures of the francophone world -from the lush landscapes of Madagascar to the snowy streets of Quebec. The afternoon featured a captivating screening of Swagger, a dynamic and deeply moving documentary that offered a raw, eye-opening glimpse into the lives of young people navigating the challenges of life on the outskirts of Paris. This memorable experience not only enriches students’ understanding of French culture but also provided fresh perspectives on the complexities of the francophone world.
