On Saturday 11th May 2024, we were delighted to put on for the second year running the Alleyn’s Fringe Festival, in conjunction with the Dulwich Festival.

The day began with three workshops for local primary school children: Circus Skills, Dancing and Japanese Taiko Drumming. The children enjoyed themselves whilst getting to grips with counting musical beats in Japanese, perfecting a dance routine to ‘Can’t stop the feeling’ and spinning plates in the circus class!

At 2pm, the festival kicked off in true style, with the Alleynian Blues singing in Great Hall, our fabulous dancers in the MCT and a play in D1 written by alumna Maddy McCourt (Dutton’s 2018), performing alongside a fellow alumna, Ottilie Nye (Brown’s 2018). The entertainment continued throughout the afternoon as Alleyn’s was basked in sunlight, and we had more delights in the Great Hall including Schola Cantorum, Art songs and chamber music and gypsy jazz in the form of The Rhine Hearts creating waves in the MCT. We were thrilled to welcome back Oliver Parikian (Tyson’s 2023) and Sophie Warner (Spurgeon’s 2022), who form The Oliver Parikian Trio, with Year 13 Theo Moran. And if that wasn’t enough, we had Theo Moran’s Sextet and Trio, soothing souls with some very chilled jazz.

The Academy Choir, made up of Year 5 and 6 local primary school students, performed four fabulous songs in the sunshine (and the wind!), which got the festival vibes going outside. The day ended with The Rocck Fest, where we had The Space Invaders, Anaphalactix, Atonement, alongside Kingsdale band Red Ivory, perform to adoring fans from the Dulwich community! It was a fabulous way to end such a joyous day.

Miss Wynter would like to thank everyone who made the day possible, in particular the performers and ensemble leaders.
