The aromatic symphony of freshly baked apricot, refreshing mint, and savoury lamb filled the air of the Food and Nutrition department on Monday night as Year 8 pupils took center stage for their MasterChef competition. Following in the flavourful footsteps of the Year 7s last week, it was now the turn of Year 8s to showcase their kitchen prowess.

Aligned also with the rich palate of Flavours of the Levant, the Year 8s enthusiastically crafted a delightful array of kitchen delicacies, including shakshuka, mint cous cous, and a suspiciously wine-like freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.

The culinary creations of the competition featured another impressive lineup:

Mains:

Mezze board

Pomegranate chicken with mint cous cous

Shakshuka

Pomegranate haloumi with flatbread and cous cous with hummus

Minted lamb with flatbread and cous cous salad

Lamb koftas, aubergine, and falafal

Desserts:

Basbousa (semolina cake)

Pomegranate rose jelly

Kadaifi stuffed cheesecake nests

Pasta Flors (apricot tart)

The crown for the winning main dish went to 8A for their combination of lamb koftas, aubergine, and falafal. In the dessert category, 8D claimed victory with their Pasta Flors, an apricot tart crafted from handmade shortcrust pastry.

This term's journey through the Flavours of the Levant has concluded, but the anticipation for the next culinary adventure is already building, with the House MasterChef competition for Middle and Upper School set to sizzle in the upcoming Spring term.
