Activities Week: (Monday 26, June 2023 - Thursday 29 June 2023)

On Monday 26th June, a group of 43 enthusiastic Year 10 pupils embarked on an enriching language learning and culturally rich journey to Rouen, France. The week was filled with cultural exploration, language immersion, and meaningful connections with the local community.

Upon arrival in Rouen, the pupils were warmly welcomed by host families who had experience in hosting international students. These gracious hosts provided a comfortable and immersive environment for the pupils to experience French culture. This allowed the pupils to practice their language skills, form connections and gain a deeper understanding of French daily life. Daily language lessons took place at the local 'French in Normandy' language school. Designed to enhance their proficiency and fluency in French, our pupils were also encouraged to speak the language as much as possible – to build further confidence.

Cultural activities were an integral part of the trip, providing the pupils with a unique window into the rich heritage of Rouen and its surrounding areas. The excursions were varied and interesting. A guided walking tour of Rouen allowed them to discover the city's historic architecture, from the majestic Rouen Cathedral to the charming streets.

During their visit to Artist Claude Monet's house in Giverny, our pupils explored the vibrant beauty of Monet's gardens, filled with blooming flowers. They gained insights into the life and artistic process of one of the world's most celebrated Impressionist painters and were able to discuss the ways in which the natural world inspired his artwork. Exploring the coastal resort of Honfleur provided a delightful change of scenery.

As they bid adieu to Rouen, the pupils carried with them cherished memories and began singing together on the coach as they journeyed home.

Thank you to our dedicated teachers whose commitment and dedication made this trip a memorable and impactful experience for the pupils.
